Objective: To show that the Ester-C is neutral
The concept of this demonstration is mixing the alkaline substance with acidic substance will produce gases. Baking powder will be used to make the alkaline water. When vitamin C based product which is acidic put in the alkaline water, gases will be produced.
(1) Prepare 3 glasses for A (Ester-C), B (Vitamin C) and C (Ascorbic acid)
(2) Adding baking powder into each of the three glasses to make alkaline water.
(3) Adding Ester-C, Vitamin C and Ascorbic acid into glass A, B and C, respectively.
(4) The reaction reacts spontaneously. The result show obviously that
(i) Glass A (Ester-C) do not produce any gases
(ii) Glass B (Vitamin C) produce slight gases, but with a lots of colouring
(iii) Glass C (Ascorbic acid) produces gases
Conclusion:
Ester-C is a neutral vitamin C based product. Therefore it will not create gastrointestinal discomfort in the stomach after consumption such as gastritis, which might occur if taking vitamin C or ascorbic acid.
Ester-C: pH 6-8
Vitamin C: pH 4
Ascorbic acid: pH 2
